I Whipped a Couple of WIP’s and Two Hats, I Also Found a Couple of Froggs

NOT THIS KIND

THE CROCHETING KIND! 😛

After frogging ” THE PENCIL CASE”, my intrest in it was renewed along with the fresh start when I decided to give it a point. So I finished it straight away. Oh, by the way I used the entire paper towel tube, I didn’t remove a piece as per the pattern, when I cut it.

I found a few more balls of scrap going through my stashed yarn. So I was able to add 2 1/2 rows to the Skrappy Triangle Shawl. It now has a section of Christmasy rows.

I also finished two hats. The first one is a baby/toddler summer bucket hat in blue variegated yarns. I used my children’s size pattern, but because I crochet on the tight side and variegated yarn tends to crochet up smaller the circumfernce was more suitable for average head sizes of baby/ toddlers from 6 to 18 months of age.

Project Name: Child’s Multi-Blues Bucket Hat
Pattern Used: Children’s Summer Bucket Hat
Designed by: Sara Sach from Posh Pooch Designs . com
Started on: 03/07/2017
Finished on: 03/08/2017
Hook Used: J/10 – 6.00 mm
Stitches Used: Single, Half double, Double Crochet and Slip Stitch

The other hat was this black bowler hat for Martin.

Project Name: Martin’s Bowler Hat
Pattern Used: Mini Brim Hat
Designed by Dianna Judge from Artsy Daisy Crochet . com
Started on: 03/10/2017
Finished on: 03/12/2017
Hook Used: K/10 1/2 – 6.50 mm
Stitches Used: Single Crochet with 2 strands of yarn held together.
Colors Used: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo 100% Acrylic 4 ply worsted weight in 0312 Black
Super Saver 8 oz. in 633 Dark Sage for hat band.
Measurements: Circumference of 20 inches . Crown to edge of brim measures 7 inches when laid flat. Hat band is 22 inches in circumference and 1 inch wide when laid flat.
Size Made: Toddler size was made by only doing 20 rounds then doing the brim.

I made it to match the one I made for his daddy, Justin.

I had to make a dark sage hat band for Justin’s too. He did not like the neon colored one that was crocheted right into the hat. The reason I just made a hat band for Martin’s is I didn’t have two skeins of this color yarn to hold two strands together. So both hats have removeable bands.

Another way to get things off your WIP’s list is to frogg the project, so I decided to frogg the wavy blue green baby blanket.

I was not liking how it was coming along. I only have one ball of the puppy print and I think I was over using it in the stripe pattern. After I got it all ripped out, I decided to crochet a blanket using the pattern I am using for the light and airy spring scarf. I also have a better idea what I will be doing for the stripe pattern. So actually a baby blanket is still in the WIP’s but just in a new form. 😀

Speaking of the light and airy scarf I decided to frogg it also. I liked the pattern, but I realized that I did not have enough different variegated blue and no variegated pinks to do the color stripe pattern I wanted. I plan to start this project again. I will be finding yarn that I have enough of to complete what I have in mind the next go round.  🙂

Another Round of Bucket Hats

While visiting my daughter, Kay the other day she told me that my brother Ted, told her that my Mom wanted a hat because everyone else had hats. He also said she needed it because her hair is so thin now she gets sun burned when she goes to the park. So I contacted my brother via Facebook to see what kind of hat she would like. I had just finished bucket hats for Kay, my son – in – law, Justin, and myself so I thought it would be a good hat for my Mom as I didn’t think she would like a tight-fitting hat. My brother agreed and gave me the colors he thought mom would like. He said to do it in beige and green to match her van. Nope, he was not kidding. Since I was making another bucket hat I thought I would make some for him, his wife, Angie,  and his son, Damen.

Pattern used for all The Bucket Hats:

Men’s Summer Bucket Hat by Sara Sach from Posh Pooch Designs

All yarns used  were 100% acrylic 4 ply worsted weight.

52 Mom's bucket hat

Hook size: J/10 – 6.00 mm

Stitches: Double crochet, Slip Stitch, Half Double crochet, and Single crochet

Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in 0334 Buff

Red Heart Super Saver in 0406 Medium Thyme

My family has slightly larger heads and I tend to crochet tightly, so I went up a hook size from the one specified in the pattern to make sure it would fit. So the finished circumference was 22 inches rather than the 19 inches given in the pattern.

I also did a small ruffle on the edge by doing * sc in next 3 stitches, then 3sc in next stitch repeat from * around.

51b Ted's Bucket hat

Hook used: K/10 1/2 – 6.50 mm

Stitches: Same

Colors: 2 Balls no label  bright light pink from my stash of pink.

Red Heart Knit and Crochet in 814 Robin Blue

My brother has a very big head. I had to go up 2 hook sizes for him.
Yes, those are the colors he chose. I was not doing an evil older sister joke on him. 🙂

53a Angie's bucket hat

Hook size: J/ 10 – 6.00 mm

Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in 0356 Amethyst

Light purple/pink no label ball

Again I used a larger sized hook.
I used a reverse single crochet stitch for the trim around the brim.

54 Damen's Bucket hat

Hook size: I/9 – 5.50 mm This is the actual called for hook.

Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in 0319 Cherry Red
