My New Camera Is A Canon ELPH 180!

My wonderful son, Nick got it for me. He purchased it at our local Walmart, but it is also available on Amazon.

Here is a bit more detail on my  Canon PowerShot ELPH 180 (Silver) with 20.0 MP CCD Sensor and 8x Optical Zoom

For those wanting a simple way to capture moments with family, friends and more, the slim, stylish PowerShot ELPH 180 camera has easy-to-use features to help create photos that are as stunning as you want. The 8x Optical Zoom lets you get close to the action, while the 20.0 Megapixel* CCD sensor with DIGIC 4+ Image Processor help produce vibrant, clear images to share or print. Take more than just still images, with the ability to record movies at 720p HD. For added convenience, Smart AUTO figures out suitable settings for what you’re photographing so you don’t have to worry about finding a picture mode yourself. To help reduce the effects of camera shake, Digital IS helps keep blur to a minimum. On top of that, the Auto Zoom feature can automatically close in on your subject and keep it in focus for easy shooting. (This is the Canon Description on both websites.)

This camera is almost exactly like my old one. I guess Canon just gave it a cute new name. One difference in this “model” is it has a dedicated trash can button. It makes it easier to toss out those bad photos. I can now also protect a photo so I don’t accidentally toss it.

It came with the rechargeable battery and the charger for the battery. Which were the same as my old camera.  Now I have a spare of both, I will now always have a battery charged. No waiting! It did not come with the USB cord to connect to laptop, but the one I had for my old camera works so no worries there.

It still has the different effects setting to choose from. I have not found my way to them yet. The menu set up is a little different also.

My old SD card was a separate disc and adapter set up. It started acting weird, so he also got me a new one that is all one piece. The old SD card was 4GB the new one is 8GB.

He gave it to me early because I will need it to take many pictures of Marty’s First Birthday! We will be having a BBQ pot luck lunch at the local State Park.

Here are a few of the first photos I took.

I Was Having Photo Withdrawals!

I could not stand it any more. I have seen so many photos I wanted to take and share with all of you. I finally asked my son if I could borrow his camera for a couple of days. He has a camera very similar to mine, his model is the Canon PowerShot A2300 HD  with 5x optical zoom and 16.0 Mega Pixels.  He also got his 4 years ago. He doesn’t use it as often as I did. The link is to the Amazon page. He nor I paid these crazy prices 4 years ago. Both of our cameras were priced around $120.00 dollars brand new through Amazon. Now they are only available through other sellers on Amazon at these hyped up prices.

We were at Walmart last Tuesday looking at cameras. They had this new model Canon PowerShot ELPH 180 (Silver) with 20.0 MP CCD Sensor and 8x Optical Zoom for $119.00 Which is what I paid for my old camera. It is also available on Amazon for the same price.  So maybe he will get it for me for my birthday in October. 😀 Ok, enough yammer about cameras, I will get on with the photos I wanted to share with you.

First up is this photo of my first gladiolus bloom!

I am so excited that they have finally started to bloom.

So far though only three of them have canes.

You can see one of the other canes just to the left of this one.

The other one is around the corner of the deck.

I am also very happy with how my mixed orange yellow marigolds have taken off.

Look at those big beautiful blooms and the bushy plants!

The tomatoes are ripening now.

And the peppers are bushy and healthy.

I have picked one green pepper which I used in a stir fry.

Many more on the way.

Turkey Shoot!

There were three Tom Turkeys this morning strutting their stuff for the Hens in the field. I got these two together as they were walking towards the house. I took these photos through the window of the house on 26x zoom with my little canon camera. If I had tried to go outside it would have scared them all away.

My Camera

I had a little Vivtar camera that could be used as a web cam. My son liked to borrow it to make stop motion movies of his Bionicle figures. Well he borrowed it for quite some time and in the process broke the battery compartment cover and something else. So he returned it to me all duct taped up. I said since he broke it all up he owed me a new camera. So I went comparing cameras on Amazon.com. I finally found one that fit every thing that I wanted in a camera. The biggest thing on that list was it had to have a removable rechargeable battery, so I would not be buying batteries every other day. Well this little beauty fit my needs. Here is the link to its Amazon page.

It is  a Canon PowerShot A4000 IS Digital Camera. It has digital zoom and 8x optical zoom. 16.0 Megapixels, and a 3.0″ LCD screen.Initially I picked the touch screen model. My son and I were in our local Wal-mart about a week before Christmas of 2012 so I reminded him he still owed me a camera. So we decided to see if they had this camera. Well they did have the model I wanted but  without a touchscreen. I decided it would probably be better for me so I would not be messing up pictures by touching the screen accidentally changing some setting. So he bought it and a memory card. I love it. It is simple for me to use. I am satisfied with the pictures and videos it takes. I guess the only complaint I have is when I take photos outside I have to kinda guess cause you can’t see the screen to well. But I think I do alright even then getting what I want in the picture. Oh, by the way my son liked mine so much when he was helping me learn how to use it, he bought himself a similar model.

Yes, all my photos and videos posted on Our Retired Life were taken with this camera. It is a regular little work horse.  Well except the picture of the camera, it was taken with my cell phone. 😀
