I have not been keeping close tabs on David’s reading, so again there will be no star ratings or one liner reviews.

He has read eight titled items. Three solo titled books and five boxed sets.

There were some titles on the kindle that were not finished, but he also likes to take a break from some stories then come back to them especially if they are boxed sets or super long stories. I can tell you this, he liked these titles enough to finish them, if he doesn’t like it he won’t finish it.

So here we go with the ones he finished since last Klearing in June.

David’s Kindle Klearing # 16

Well David has only kleared out two items on the Kindle. Even though we have been keeping busy with gardening, fishing, and home improvement projects I thought he would have more than that by this time. So I guess it was not as bad as I thought.  There will be no stars or one liner reviews this go around, just the books ma’am, and the blurbs.

One of forty pilots engineered for the rigors of long-term space travel, Mars Cori has been training his entire life for the chance to see Earth with his own eyes. What he finds there could change the course of human civilization. The trick? Staying alive to watch it happen.

David hoped it would get better, but it never did.

The year is 2285. Amidst our colonization of the solar system, humanity is locked in a low-intensity war with the hostile AI known as the PLAN. But Elfrida Goto, a field agent for the 23rd – century equivalent of the Peace Corps, tries to ignore the fighting. Helping and protecting space colonists is her job … even when that means evicting them from their homes.
It’s a crappy job, but someone has to do it. The UN’s grand project to terraform Venus requires asteroids–lots of asteroids–and next on the list is 11073 Galapagos. Tasked with evicting the asteroid’s squatter population, Elfrida faces a herculean challenge, not made easier by her aggravatingly opinionated telepresence robot … or her uncooperative local liaison. Jun Yonezawa is determined to preserve his people’s independence–with violence, if necessary.
But when a lethal AI fleet attacks Elfrida’s home base, her mission changes in a hurry. Now, she and Jun have just one chance to save the squatters on 11073 Galapagos. It means going up against the most dangerous enemy humanity has ever known. But Elfrida takes her mission of protecting space colonists seriously. What she doesn’t know is that her most dangerous enemy of all may be lurking close at hand.

David’s Kindle Klearing # 12

Davids Kindle Klearing banner

David’s back was feeling much better this week. He was able to do some maintainance on BOB. He pulled the drive line down which is in 3 sections, replaced a carrier bearing and a U-joint on the first section. He put that section back up, started BOB put it in gear and gave it some gas up to 40 miles per hour. The vibration under the driver’s seat was not there. He then put the 2nd section back up and repeated this process. The vibration was back. So he took the second section back down and replaced the U-Joint on this section. He has not put this section back up on BOB yet. He may do that today. Hopefully this will take care of the vibration. 🙂  So anyway he only finished two books this week.

Out With The Olde and In With The New

KINDLE KEYBOARD GOTTA BRAND NEW COVER !

Part One: The Crochet Fabric

I have been doing lots of crochet projects for family gifts of late, so after finishing Martin’s Blue Visor I decided it was time to do a project for myself. I have been looking at my Kindle Keyboard Cover for sometime thinking on how I could fashion one that would be similar to the one I have. I liked that it was like a book cover.

So with much thinking and planning in my head I finally began work. First came the choosing what colors I would use. David uses it a lot so I didn’t want to get too girly with the colors. I finally decided on using gold and yellow tones.

I used the Dark Gold as my Main Color. Bright Yellow(A), Sun Gold(B) and Pale Yellow(C) were the Contrasting Colors. The Buff and White were for trim and the fasteners on the inside of the cover.

I measured the old cover it was 8 1/2 inches by 12 inches. So this would have to be the size of my finished crochet piece. I decided to go to 13 inches so I would have a bit of wiggle room.

I used a H/8 – 5.00 mm hook. This gives a nice tight stitch for a more fabric like piece.

I used single crochet for the same reason.

This is what my gauge was : 8 single crochets = 2 inches and 3 rows = 1 inch

So now I am going to write out my first go at an actual pattern for you. You may use it if you want to make an 8 inch by 13 inch piece of striped crochet fabric for a project of your own. 🙂  I am sure everyone can pretty much make a piece of crochet fabric to what ever size they need. Sometimes though it is just nice to have  written steps handy so you can keep your place.  I mostly wrote it out just to see if I could and it would make sense to others.

Chain 5o with Main Color. Note: Main Color will be carried up along the side of the piece.

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook. Sc across to end Ch. 1 Turn – 49 stitches.

Row 21 – 23: Sc across to end Ch. 1 Turn – 49 stitches.

Row 24: Sc across to last stitch join Contrasting Color B with last two loops of last Sc, Ch. 1 Turn. – 49 stitches.

Row 25: Sc across to end Ch. 1 Turn – 49 stitches.

Row 26: Sc across to last stitch join Main Color with last two loops of last Sc, Fasten off Contrasting Color B. Ch. 1 Turn. – 49 stitches.

Row 27 – 29: Sc across to end Ch. 1 Turn – 49 stitches.

Row 30: Sc across to last stitch join Contrasting Color A with last two loops of last Sc, Ch. 1 Turn. Carry Main Color up the Side.  – 49 stitches.

Row 31: Sc across to end Ch. 1 Turn – 49 stitches.

Row 33 – 35: Sc across to end Ch. 1 Turn – 49 stitches.

Row 36: Sc across to end. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

So, does it make sense, could you follow along and come out with a nice crochet fabric piece?

As you can see my assistant was inspecting my work on the final rows of the crochet fabric piece.
