Kay’s Mrs. Claus Hat

Last year I made Martin and  Justin Santa Hats. (How I altered that pattern for Martin can be found here). I asked Kay if she would like one too. She said that she needed to have a Mrs. Clause Hat. I had already made a hat that I thought the pattern would make a perfect Mrs. Claus hat. I showed that hat to Kay.

She said, “That would work great in red and white of course. Oh, and I want a pom-pom on the top.”

So this is what I came up with. 🙂

My Amethyst (Purple) Mulberry Mix Pouch

I liked the style of the Crochet Reindeer Pouch so I made one for myself. I thought it would make a great pouch for dollars, change, and my ancient cellphone. I did not add the eyes or antlers because I made it in purple.

Well I did decide to add a flower. Flowers patterns are hard for me to figure out by just reading. Maria’s flower pattern  for the hat, on her site with a picture tutorial was not enough help to me. So I took to YouTube to find a video for a big layered flower. I found one that I kinda understood.

Well when it came down to it I just kinda winged my own flower. I started a granny square for the center in Hyacinth. Then I double crocheted 3 times in the spaces, next I think I single crocheted the tops of those double crochet then double crocheted down to the granny square center. Then I double crochet in the front loop only 3 times slip stitched in the same then slip stitched the next stitch, slip stitch then chain 3 , then dc in next 3 front loops in Mulberry Mix I repeated that around. Then I changed to Bright Orchid and did the same in the back loops of the previous round. Then I finished by slip stitching around that in Amethyst.

Well, any way I think that is what I did. 😀

I sewed the flower on the hat with a bright pink button at the center.

I also sewed the points of each of the outer petals to the hat

other wise they curled up and I thought this would keep it more secure to the hat.

Oh, by the way how do you like my new model? Kay gave her to me. She is a little dinged up, but she really knows how to work a hat!

Another Round of Bucket Hats

While visiting my daughter, Kay the other day she told me that my brother Ted, told her that my Mom wanted a hat because everyone else had hats. He also said she needed it because her hair is so thin now she gets sun burned when she goes to the park. So I contacted my brother via Facebook to see what kind of hat she would like. I had just finished bucket hats for Kay, my son – in – law, Justin, and myself so I thought it would be a good hat for my Mom as I didn’t think she would like a tight-fitting hat. My brother agreed and gave me the colors he thought mom would like. He said to do it in beige and green to match her van. Nope, he was not kidding. Since I was making another bucket hat I thought I would make some for him, his wife, Angie,  and his son, Damen.

Pattern used for all The Bucket Hats:

Men’s Summer Bucket Hat by Sara Sach from Posh Pooch Designs

All yarns used  were 100% acrylic 4 ply worsted weight.

Hook size: J/10 – 6.00 mm

Stitches: Double crochet, Slip Stitch, Half Double crochet, and Single crochet

Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in 0334 Buff

Red Heart Super Saver in 0406 Medium Thyme

My family has slightly larger heads and I tend to crochet tightly, so I went up a hook size from the one specified in the pattern to make sure it would fit. So the finished circumference was 22 inches rather than the 19 inches given in the pattern.

I also did a small ruffle on the edge by doing * sc in next 3 stitches, then 3sc in next stitch repeat from * around.

Hook used: K/10 1/2 – 6.50 mm

Stitches: Same

Colors: 2 Balls no label  bright light pink from my stash of pink.

Red Heart Knit and Crochet in 814 Robin Blue

My brother has a very big head. I had to go up 2 hook sizes for him.
Yes, those are the colors he chose. I was not doing an evil older sister joke on him. 🙂

53a Angie's bucket hat

Hook size: J/ 10 – 6.00 mm

Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in 0356 Amethyst

Light purple/pink no label ball

Again I used a larger sized hook.
I used a reverse single crochet stitch for the trim around the brim.

Hook size: I/9 – 5.50 mm This is the actual called for hook.

Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in 0319 Cherry Red

Another Heart Beanie For Martin

In Traditional Valentine’s Day Colors.

If you recall I did a post about the heart beanie I made for Martin. In it I wrote that I was giving the front post double crochet stitch another try to make a beanie. The first attempt photos are shown below.

I got to looking at the beanie and decided  I would start over. I didn’t like how it was looking with the red showing through the white and vice versa as I carried the unused color strand along and the heart was not lining up correctly. I also decided to make the larger 2T-3T size rather than the 6-12 months size. I think Martin is gonna be a big boy. 🙂

I couldn’t figure out any other way of changing to red other than  cutting and joining to get the proper look.  I kept the white attached but did not stitch it in as I crocheted the heart. I left it hang across the back and picked it back up when I returned to the main body of the beanie.

Here is the final result. I think I may have gotten the hang of the front post double crochet.
